Wunvzhou: Wuyuan After Dark
A riverside resort at the edge of Wuyuan where Hui-style canals, flower-canopied boats and a lantern-lit pagoda come alive after sunset — home to the "Meet Wuyuan" spectacle and the county’s famous fish-lantern dance.

Wunvzhou (Wunüzhou Resort) sits on the water at the edge of Wuyuan — the same county whose terraced rapeseed valleys draw the spring crowds. By day it is a freshly built Hui-style water town of whitewashed walls and black-tiled eaves; after dusk it becomes one of Jiangxi’s most theatrical night destinations, all lantern-light, drifting flower boats and a glazed pagoda mirrored in the canals.
A water town built for the night
The resort is laid out along a network of canals crossed by arched stone bridges, with the glazed Wuyu Pagoda as its landmark — lit from within after dark and visible from almost everywhere on the water. Whitewashed Hui-style facades, tiled pavilions and warm-lit lanterns line the banks; the whole place is designed to be walked slowly and seen by reflection.
The flower boats
The signature image of Wunvzhou is the flower boat — a wooden vessel canopied entirely in fresh blossom, gliding under the bridges in a slow procession through the afternoon and into the evening. Boats pass beneath the arched Xichen Bridge in single file, their flower roofs doubled in the green water below.
“Meet Wuyuan” and the fish-lantern dance
Each night the resort stages “Meet Wuyuan” (Yùjiàn Wùyuán), a large-scale real-scene performance that draws on the county’s legends, water and architecture. Just as beloved is the fish-lantern parade: glowing fish-shaped lanterns carried shoulder-high through the crowd, a Wuyuan folk tradition recognised as intangible cultural heritage. The procession winds through the lanes and ends in a roar of colour at the pagoda square.
From dusk to fireworks
An evening here has a rhythm. Lanterns warm along the eaves as the sky goes blue, flower boats keep working the canals, and the fire artists strike “molten-iron” sparks against the dark. On most clear nights it closes with a short burst of fireworks over the lake — the pagoda, the water and the crowd all lit at once.
Wunvzhou sits beside Wuyuan’s high-speed rail station, an easy add-on to the rapeseed-terrace villages of Huangling and Jiangling — one bright night to bookend the green-and-gold days.
