Mount Sanqing (Sanqingshan) is a UNESCO World Heritage geopark of weathered granite pillars, pine-clad ridges and walkways pinned to vertical cliffs. On a clear morning the peaks float above a sea of cloud; it is one of the great mountain experiences in eastern China.
Cable car, then plank-walks
You do not climb Sanqing from the bottom. Two cable cars (the South and the East/Jinsha lines) lift you to the high ridge in minutes; from there a network of well-built plank-walks and stairs loops around the famous formations. The walking is moderate but long — expect several hours and a lot of steps.
Sunrise & the sea of cloud
The cloud sea is most likely after rain, when moist air settles in the valleys overnight. To catch sunrise you stay on the mountain — there are hotels near the upper stations — and walk out to an east-facing viewpoint before dawn. A guide makes this far easier: they watch the forecast and know which platform will be clear.
